-From Amazon- Miss Permilia Griswold may have been given the opportunity of a debut into New York high society, but no one warned her she wasn't guaranteed to "take." After spending the last six years banished to the wallflower section of the ballroom, she's finally putting her status on the fringes of society to good use by penning anonymous society gossip columns under the pseudonym "Miss Quill." Mr. Asher Rutherford has managed to maintain his status as a reputable gentleman of society despite opening his own department store. While pretending it's simply a lark to fill his time, he has quite legitimate reasons for needing to make his store the most successful in the country. When Permilia overhears a threat against the estimable Mr. Rutherford, she's determined to find and warn the man. Disgruntled at a first meeting that goes quite poorly and results in Asher not believing her, she decides to take matters into her own hands, never realizing she'll end up at risk as well. As Asher and Permilia are forced to work together and spend time away from the spotlight of society, perhaps there's more going on behind the scenes than they ever could have anticipated. . . . ISBN-13: 978-0764217944 These two will be surprised by...love! Oh, where to begin??? Well, it's a Jen Turano novel and that means romance, madcap adventures, and a splash of danger! Plus an adorable, or hilariously cantankerous, pet that will occasionally steal the show. | This Book received a 4.5 Bark rating. |
-From the back cover- Off the charts and on the run. International pop star Margo Hartman could use a night off. A grueling tour and overbearing entourage have sent her over the edge. It's time for this diva to disappear. And who would think to look for a superstar in a small town in Ohio? Sheriff's deputy Brock Moore is undercover as well. He knows Margo isn't who she appears to be, but her uncanny resemblance to a local Amish woman is raising all sorts of questions . . . the kinds that make her a target for a killer. Both are determined to find answers, but their mutual attraction stands in the way of either of them doing it alone. Is finding Margo the solution to Brock's problems or just the beginning . . . ? Past & present collide in Amish country I fell in love with her quirky and fun historical romances several years ago so a new Jen Turano book was all I needed to hear to get excited. Then I read the back cover blurb and really knew that I HAD to read it! Needless to say, now that I have read it I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the Finding Home series. Finding Margo was different and yet so much the same; like finding favorite flowers in a different garden. I quickly discovered that Finding Margo wasn't quite sure what genre it wanted to be: part romantic comedy, part suspense, and part Amish. But as expected, Jen Turano handled the marriage of genres perfectly and seamlessly. | This Book received a 5 Bark rating. |
-From the back cover- Lucetta Plum is an actress on the rise in New York City, but must abandon her starring role when a fan's interest turns threatening. Lucetta's widowed friend, Abigail Hart, seizes the opportunity to meddle in Lucetta's life and promptly whisks her to safety at her eligible grandson's estate. At first glance, Bram Haverstein appears to be a gentleman of means – albeit an eccentric one – but a mysterious career and a secret fascination with a certain actress means there's much more to him than society knows. While Lucetta has no interest in Abigail's matchmaking machinations, she can't ignore the strange things going on in Bram's house and the secrets he hides. As the hijinks and hilarity that Bram, Lucetta, are swept into take a more dangerous turn, can they accept who they are behind the parts they play in time to save the day? ISBN-13: 978-0764212772 Will matchmaking schemes triumph again? Anyone who has checked out my reviews will quickly realize that I am very enthusiastic about Jen Turano's books. And you'll probably have guessed that she is one of my favorite authors. I truly look forward to each of her new releases. Each one is a crazy-fun and romantic romp through the Gilded Age, plus that perfect element of suspense that she adds to each story. | This Book received a 4.5 Bark rating. |
-From the back cover- After growing up an orphan, Millie Longfellow is determined to become the best nanny the East Coast has ever seen. Unfortunately, her playfulness and enthusiasm aren't always well-received and she finds herself dismissed from yet another position. Everett Mulberry has quite unexpectedly become guardian to three children that scare off every nanny he hires. About to depart for Newport, Rhode Island, for the summer, he's desperate for competent childcare. At wit's end with both Millie and Everett, the employment agency gives them one last chance – with each other. As Millie falls in love with her mischievous charges, Everett focuses on achieving the coveted societal status of the upper echelons. But as he investigates the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the children's parents, will it take the loss of those he loves to learn whose company he truly wants for the rest of his life? ISBN-13: 978-0764212765 Will they survive each other? Another perfectly delightful story from Jen Turano! I just couldn't seem to put it down! Which is a pretty common problem with her books. In Good Company is probably one of my favorites so far, I just love Millie's quirky personality and crazy-but-effective ways of dealing with the three rather naughty angels under her care. Not only do the children learn that they can't best their lovable nanny but so do Millie and Edward have a few things to learn. | This Book received a 4.5 Bark rating. |
-From the back cover-
Miss Harriet Peabody dreams of the day she can open up a shop selling refashioned gowns to independent working women like herself. Unfortunately , when an errand for her millinery job goes sadly awry due to a difficult customer, she finds herself without an income.
Mr. Oliver Addleshaw is on the verge of his biggest business deal yet when he learns his potential partner prefers to deal with men who are settled down and wed. When Oliver witnesses his ex not-quite-fiancée causing the hapless Harriet to lose her job, he tries to make it up to her by enlisting her help in making a good impression on his business partner. Harriet quickly finds her love of fashion can't make her fashionable. She'll never truly fit into Oliver's world, with its fancy dinners and elegant balls, but just as she's ready to call off the fake relationship a threat from her past forces both Oliver and Harriet to discover that love can come in the most surprising packages.
Perfectly delightful!
It's a Jen Turano book, do I need to say more? I LOVE her stories! I picked one up on a whim probably three years ago and have been totally hooked since. She writes such hysterically funny historical fiction and I always enjoy the blend of romance, humor, and the dash of suspense. When I cracked the pages of After A Fashion I knew I would be in for a real treat. It was just as delightful as I expected, even more really. |

-From the back cover- After his departure from New York two years ago to meet up with his almost-fiancée, Zayne Beckett is the last person Agatha Watson wanted to stumble upon in travels as a reporter with the New York Tribune. Quite pathetically bedraggled, he clearly needs to be taken in hand and sent back East to his family. Although she no longer has feelings for him, Agatha realizes – by hook or by crook – she'll have to be the one to get the obstinate man home. Zayne has no desire to be taken anywhere and is prepared to drag his heels all the way home . . . until he finds himself slipping back into the familiar banter of his former friendship with Agatha. Once they arrive in New York, Zayne realizes Agatha's determined nose for news has earned her a few enemies, and he hopes to repay her help with some help of his own. Everyone else may think them a match, but nothing could be further from the truth – until Agatha finds herself in real trouble. Have these two stubborn, too-smart-for-their-own-good people been meant for each other all along. Jen Turano does it again! I just can't seem to get enough of Jen Turano's historical adventures and quirky characters! Each new book is a delight in comedic and very romantic suspense. A Match Of Wits fully delivered everything I've come to expect and appreciate in the author's stories. As I've read the books in this series I've laughed my way through historical fiction in a way that does my heart good. Laughter truly is the best medicine and my wacky sense of humor takes great enjoyment out of the capers and predicaments each of Jen Turano's Ladies Of Distinction finds herself in. I do think, though, that Agatha's really took the cake, or more like the dynamite, and topped them all. | This Book earned a 4.5 Bark rating. |

Reading and history have been my passion since early childhood when my parents encouraged both. I was introduced to Christian fiction around age 4-5 while listening to radio drama adaptations of books by great authors including Janette Oke. I have been a voracious reader and avid library patron ever since. I started Tell Tale Book Reviews in December 2012. I am also an active volunteer in the areas I hold most dear, library, museum, and pets. Hobbies include a small bead jewelry business, watching classic movies/ TV, listening to Irish/Celtic music, and autograph collecting.
